Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrocus (c.275—203 BC), nicknamed Cunctator (the Delayer). His defensive campaign against Hannibal led to his recall. After the disaster of Cannae in 216, his 'Fabian' tactics were vindicated. He was elected consul for the fifth time in 209, when he captured Tarentum (Taranto).
